Boeuf River Wildlife Management Area's (WMA) "Crowe Field Unit" is located in north central Louisiana southeast of Columbia. The Boeuf River WMA is rich in waterfowl tradition and history, and is currently being managed as winter habitat for thousands of Mississippi Flyway waterfowl as well as many other species of migratory and resident wildlife. Boeuf River has become a favored location for sportsmen to enjoy the waterfowl resource through hunting.
Robert Young was a Monroe, Louisiana, businessman who generously donated his time and financial assistance to many causes. Robert was widely respected among local citizens, corporations, and businessmen and women. He worked tirelessly with Louisiana Tech and donated generously to its athletic program. Robert was a life sponsor of Ducks Unlimited, and an avid waterfowler with a strong conservation ethic. He introduced many to the sport of duck hunting on these grounds. Tragically, Robert lost his life in a plane crash while returning from a hunting trip in 2002. Due to his love of the outdoors and his special ties to the Crowe Field Unit, it is only fitting that a wetlands restoration project be named for Robert Young to pay tribute to this man who left the world a better place than he found it.
