WHITES MILL REFUGE
Wetlands Restoration
Purpose: To restore 52 acres of waterfowl habitat on Whites
Mill Refuge. The area was acquired by Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency in
1992. Whites Mill was a converted wetland that had been in agricultural production
for many years prior to its acquisition. Restoration activities will include
the construction of terrace levees, installation of water control structures,
and installation of a pump to provide a dependable source of water. Ducks Unlimited
was contracted to provide topographical surveys, wetlands design, and other
engineering services on 52 acres of moist-soil habitat. The area is managed
by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to provide quality wintering habitat
for waterfowl.
Location: The project is located on Whites Mill Refuge in
Blount County approximately 5 miles southeast of Maryville, TN.
