Peach Point WMA
Stringfellow Wetland Projects
Purpose: To restore 599 acres of freshwater and moist-soil
wetlands on Peach Point WMA through construction of levees and installation
of several water control structures. On the North Stringfellow Tract, enhancements
associated with this project include: 1 mile of levee construction to capture
water flow from a drainage swale to create approximately 305 acres of freshwater
marsh habitat. On the South Stringfellow Tract, levees and water control structures
were added to create 294 acres of moist-soil habitat. Management of this area
will provide a wetland regime that mimics the function of natural wetlands in
the region. This project is managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
to maintain high quality wetland habitat for wintering waterfowl, while providing
additional duck hunting opportunities.
